I just picked up a model66-2 round butt with a 2.5 inch barrel, the finish has been buffed to a high polish and the hammer bobbed with serrations added to the top of the hammer, It has a single action let off that is just scary, and a super smooth D.A. pull of between 5-8 lbs with No stacking crisp as a glass rod. I have a couple of people trying to buy it from me ,but I have no idea of the value. The gun was given to me by a friend trying to pay off a debt.Help thanks Karl

To me, the modifications bring the value down. I would say around $400. I'm sure it's a great shooter but to get the most $$ the gun should be bone stock. I love the 19/66 models and if you shoot that gun you will see why.

Again this is just my opinion and value est. for my area.

M-66

The shaved hammer is a non issue in my book.....all of my carry revolvers have that treatment and the OEM config can be easily restored if so desired....I bought a used M-66-2 last summer for $450. That price is just a baseline for you to use, I see them for that price and higher depending on the variables.
If the mod's and the action work was done by a "name" in the industry that would enhance the value.

Modifying any firearm is an all-or-nothing proposition. Done by a professional and accompanied by a receipt/documentation, firearm value can be enhanced. Anonymous work is a dice-roll ... quality or Bubba? Who knows. Lacking confirmation on who did the work, and without original box & grips, I wouldn't spend more than $350. I use that amount based on what I have paid in the past for stock un-altered 66 snubs. I'd also want to put a few rounds down range before buying based on the modifications. If it shoots well and doesn't appear to be a slop job, then value is completely subjective, and the right person might pay up to $500.

Thanks for the replies, the gun is a sweet shooter and a joy to carry. I have not seen many 2.5 inch model 66s have heard they were low production. Thinking about selling a couple of guns to fund a HK416 but that's a long term goal. I gave $500.00 credit off the debt for it,I have the original grips, .357 snubbies are hard to find in my area,so it was a good deal at that price. I guess if I sell it will be a break even deal.

Tony, I think that you were fair with your $500 credit for the revolver. In my area of Florida, you wouldn't find a good 2.5" 66 or 19 for under $500. Most that I have seen were priced above that. The "work" done to your revolver appears to be well done and could easily be reversed if desired. I would keep it rather than sell it for less than your investment. I won't eat much and should increase in value in time.

Any item is only worth what someone with the money is willing to pay for it. That being said you know what you paid and what is being offered for the revolver. Only you can decide to accept or reject the buyers offer.

Did you buy it to "flip" it?

Added Information: After reading your second post, I believe that you paid - took credit for the top end price of a modified revolver. As you said it's a great revolver, so why not keep it.

I'm with 66snub and Old Bear, keep it, shoot it. M66 snubs may not be "rare" but they sure are hard to find. I stumbled unpon a 66-2 like yours about a year ago and it is a joy to shoot.

Try finding a 3" Model 66. Talk about hard to find.
In my area, the 2.5" 66s are not that hard to find, just pricey.
The work you mentioned would be a deal breaker for me, but that is just my opinion.

I didn't get it to flip, just tossing the Idea around it is a sweet shooter and a great carry gun,I should have said hard to find, not rare. I am thinking of removing the single action notch on the hammer and making it DAO , to keep anyone who may pick it up and try to shoot it SA from blowing their toes off or worse
