Checking out my mod. 66 that I recently inherited. Ser. # is 2K82XXX. This belonged to my grandfather and then my father.

Thank you so much, what would you value this gun at?

Condition is everything, early 1970's minty "pinned" barrel and "recessed" cylinder 66's like yours seem to command about $1K or more. Check out GunBroker/GunsAmerica auctions as well as the classifieds here for pricing trends.

1K????????? I've got two 66 no dashes with pinned barrels and recessed cylinders. I'll take $1800 for both. Probably a little closer to $500-$600. $650 for a real nice one with the box.

By the way if it matters, those stocks aren't original, those came off a newer model. The older model targets didn't have the circle cutout for a reloader but more of a football looking recess.

The top one is also a 1972 build.

Yes I know this. both my grandfather and my father carried this gun with them every day, when my father acquired the gun he ordered new grips and put his father's grips in our safe.

help

I have a model 66-2 ser. # ana 45xx I would like to know how old what is it worth and where can I get a hammer and a trigger and its got a 3 inch barrel

I own a S&W MOD. 66-2 w/6" barrel.
I replaced the nice looking original wooden grips with Hogue grips, though.
Anyway,....
It has 173K431 directly above MOD.66-2 stamped on the front left side of the frame under bellow the extractor channel, and it also has 2X713 stamped on the inside of the yoke.

I'd like to know the date it was manufactured along with any other info that can be derived from these numbers.

I assume the 'K' is the frame designator.

Oh, one other thing I've noticed, the logo is stamped on the left rear frame behind the cylinder opening whereas all the others I've seen have it on the right side.
What's with that??

Welcome to the forum.

It is from 1982 and 2X713 is the assembly number which should also be on the left side of the grip frame.

S&W moved the trademark from the sideplate to the left side in 1981 on K-frames.
For a littel while it was the small, 'j-frame' trademark but then they went to a larger one seen from then on.

Thanks for the quick response.
So, that tells me that it was already 10 yrs old when I bought it NIB.
This one has the smaller trademark.

It's a shame to leave an area the size of the RH side plate completely blank, but...I guess it's nothing that a little fancy engraving can't rectify, for a few extra $$$.

It's still one awesome piece of work.
