Model 10-5 3"

I saw this for sale locally and knew I had to have it. I found it odd that a Model 10 was so appealing to me because I'd never paid them any attention. To me, they were nothing special.

But the 3" barrel fascinated me (I guess simply because it's less common), and square butt guns point very naturally for me. Top it all off with a serrated trigger and a box of ammo and I was convinced that this was one gun I could not pass on.

From what I read in the 3" K frame thread, the 3" Model 10s were usually shipped overseas for military or law enforcement use. That's all I really know; if anyone else has more information they could share I'd appreciate it.

It's a 10-5, D7Q5XXX. S&W dates it to 1974.

Congratulations on the purchase and a lot of the 3 inch Model 10's were used by security people and some plain clothes LEO's.

Standard issue for police in Australia for years. My 3" model 10-5 ex Victoria police From 1974 has become my favorite revolver. I did add crimson trace laser grips to help make up for my 62 yer old eyes at night.

You will enjoy the 3", it is a near-perfect combination for a 38 revolver. Conceals well, the 3" barrel inmproves ballistic performance over a 2" barrel, balances very nicely in your hand.

I have had four of them (the sound you hear is my head hitting the top of my desk repeatedly for having sold any of them).

I think they are one of the perfect blends of size and power.

I view it as a big snubby, or a small service revolver; the smallest of the full-size revolvers or the biggest snubby. A little big gun, or a big little gun.
