I've been not so actively looking for one of these for a while now. I found a fairly nice one and will be traveling to Sacramento to do the PPT paperwork.
I carried one of these in the military. As a Helicopter Crewmember, we were issued a sidearm. I chose the S&W Model 10 as I had been told the 1911 was heavy & inaccurate.
I never needed to use a sidearm but carrying it gave me an added sense of security.
I've attached the pics used for the sale. I will take new ones when I receive the gun.

Great that you found it! I love the look of the tapered barreled Model 10 revolvers and 4-inch versions are best. I'm grateful I can own them instead of Glocks.

Bruce, nice find. I was also looking for one last year and saw a 10-5 4" in almost new condition. Mine dates to 1976. I may have to get a heavy barrelled model to keep it company. It is a great shooting revolver.

It should be a law that everyone owns a Mdl 10 standard barrel .38.
You may own fancier and more expensive guns, but you won't own any better guns than the Mdl 10.

If there is one gun that represents S&W , that is it.

Congratulations on a fine acquisition.

The 10-5 is my favorite handgun. I've got several, and have been hunting one from 1963. These guns just handle like they are part of your arm, and are a joy to shoot. My EDC is a 10-5.

Nice gun and congratulations.

I traded a very nice nickeled Model 15 snubby even up for a like new 10-5 last year. My dad gave a pencil barrel Model 10 to my grandfather in the mid-60s and I wanted one for nostalgia sake. To my delight, the 10-5 is perfectly regulated (i.e. point of aim and point of impact match very, very well) and it shoots very small groups to boot.

I ordered a Sourdough Pancake holster from Rob at Simply Rugged and have been happy as a clam. The holster also fits my 4" Model 15.

I had been told the 1911 was heavy & inaccurate.

Somebody lied to you.

Major George Nonte was training a group of soldiers on the .45 when some of them complained that the pistol was inaccurate.

The good major dropped to the prone position and emptied a magazine into a 100 yard silhoutte. He wrote that he heard no more complaints.

Any idea what year it is?

Not yet -

I'm doing the paperwork this weekend, I'll have the #'s and run 'em by the "experts".

Muley Gil - I know that now. I still think it was the Armsroom guys trying to hang on to the Colts. But, you've got to remember, many of these sidearms had been re-issued many times.

Nice find! I've never met a M-10 that being in good mechanical shape that wouldent shoot. When I need reassurance that I can still shoot, I grab one of my 10's! By the way even a ratty old 1911 will shoot, just a little harder to learn how is all.

Nice! I've been looking for that very holster. Who makes it & are they available still?

rayman -

Yes, it's a Hunter holster. Hunter is still in business so you can order one. Best bet is to buy one used tho, on flea-bay. The older ones have more character. I've accumulated a few over the years and like them for their ability to carry weak-side (when a long-gun is sling carried strong-side) and the full protection of my handguns.

Also - the Hunter hosters are not lined - be aware that the metal snap part (on the inside) could mar your handgun.

OK, I asked the "when was it shipped" date.

Serial number is C9305XX.

Thanks, gunnut44.

She's in great condition too! Pick her up on the 21st.

Wyatt Burp -

Same one I believe. Price went down to $335.00 - add a tank of gas for the 300 miles I drove, still worth it.
No box or docs but, has original grips. The guy who sold it said his Grandfather bought it new.

I have two from that same ear. One is still new in the box and they are very much a treat to those who enjoy nostalgia for nostalgia's sake. My shooter has the sweetest trigger of all my guns.
