Thinking about buying a Model 10-6 from an online dealer. The pictures show it to be well used (finish about 65% and wood grips dinged), definitely not pristine. I have bought from this dealer before without any regrets. Price after shipping and transfer fees will be about $320 (not great but not too bad based on my research). Anything in particular to be wary about on Model 10's? I have just become interested in them and according to several posts here everyone needs a Model 10. I am just looking for a dependable shooter for the truck and desert excursions. Would you jump on it or keep looking for a cleaner one?

I have a 10-6 that is an ex-LEO trade-in. It's a great shooter, not a great looker. That price seems a little high to me, BUT I picked mine up almost 20 years ago for about $150.

Some say that's too much, but it depends on the area. Around here, $300 will usually only buy a Taurus or a Rossi. That said, I just picked up a $250 10-5 at a local pawn shop that looks like it has been in the holster since 1965. The finish is worn almost everywhere except the trigger. He said he could get more so I might pick up another. Before I found this, I was looking at a 15 for $275 that I would have had to pay shipping and transfer, about the same as what you're paying.
Anyway, this isn't a safe queen, it goes in my hip while I'm walking through the woods around my house.

I recently picked up a 10-7 snub here in southern Indiana in what I would guesstimate to be about 75-80% for $294 including tax. At the time I really didn't know what they was going for, but it just seemed wrong to let it set on the shelf at that price:) So, it doesn't sound like too bad a deal to me.

I'm also in Indiana and just paid $450 for a unfired 10-9 2" HB with box and papers. I just had to have it. I don't mind paying for what I want because $450 for a new quality revolver is a great deal compared to what you get these days for the same price.

All mod 10's must be in Indiana! :)

I bought a 4 inch 10-8 heavy bbl & round butt NIB with all the paperwork and paid the most I ever have for a Mod 10, $400.

I wanted it because of the condition (new) and I didn't have a round butt 4 inch gun.

Mod 10's should be the easiest to find of all Smiths. Even on online sites a deal can be found if you don't get in a hurry. Until last weekend I would've said 300 bucks ought to buy a good Mod 10 anywhere. It still should if you don't do like me and give in to temptation!

I picked up a 10-6 last x-mas for $250. Former State Police revolver so it has plenty of holster wear but it is an excellent shooter.

Don't jump the"gun". It seems way high given your assessed condition of it. Why but this one? Hold out and see what shows up. If your patient you will find some screaming deals when you least expect too. Kyle.

Normally I'm pretty impulsive and impatient when it comes to gun purchases, but I am going to wait and try to find one in better condition.
Thanks for the replies.
