A local gun shop has a sweet 10-9 for sale @ $350. Figure in the tax and background, it will be around $390 OTD. Looks to be very little use and original wood grips without any damage. The bluing is complete with no wear and no powder residue is present. If it has been shot, I doubt there's been more than a box of ammo through it. No box, papers, or tools. So, what's the consensus? Good deal, average, or keep looking? Owner claims his best cash price is the marked price of $350.

$350 to $400 is about what the local shops would charge in my area.

Hope this helps.

Good price. If you like the gun...go for it.

I just paid $299 for a 3" police turn-in!! Only because I wanted the shorter barrel.

Go figure!!!!!!!!

Sounds resonable. I prefer the heavy barrell version to the tapered, which is this one?

I've paid/sold mod 10's from $325 to $440 (for a nickel in perfect condition).

I'd say snap it up and enjoy!

Welcome to the forum!

IN MY HUMBLE OPINION; you might find one cheaper, but it is unlikely to be in the condition you describe. Pre-owned guns, and all the S&Ws I currently own are pre-owned, are likely to have various levels of wear. If you are a little OCD like me, the wear (especially rust-induced 'patina' or slight pitting) may bother you a little such that you may wish you'd bought a $50 or $100-worth "nicer" copy of the thing you own.

End of story: if it's a really nice example, buy it - you'll be really happy with it because you'll own 'nice stuff' - instead of having saved a few bucks.

Again, IMHO.

Thanks for the replies everyone. This one has the 4" tapered barrel, not the heavy version. I plan on stopping by there sometime soon to see if he will deal on the price or maybe throw in a zippered case if he won't. I really hate paying the full marked price on something. I will let you know how it goes.

You will pay alot more than $350 for a brand new Model 10.

And the standard barrel 10 is the classic design that has withstood the test
of time.

Don't let your sense of not paying the asking price keep you from getting a nice gun that you would enjoy.

I have seen people walk away over as little as $15 difference on a nice gun.

That would be a real shame.

I recently bought a 10-8 Heavy barrel model 10 in basically mint condition...paid $350.....+tax....

I freakin' love my 10-7 .38 4"!! The trigger is buttery and even with fixed sights everyone that has a go wants to buy it. If you want a great all around gun I think that's a fair price if it's in good shape? Mine was made in 1982 and it's got forever life to it. Make the move!

Let the good folks here know what dash it is, blue or nickel, barrel length, paperwork and box, rust or wear, round butt or square, etc. Try to get a serial number or at least the first 4 or 5 numbers.
