Anyone see the model 10 frames J&G sales has for sale? It’s a round butt frame with no barrel. I suspect since these guns originally had 2 inch barrels they are not legal for import.

Smith & Wesson 10 Revolver, 38 Special, No Barrel, Round Butt, GSS, CAI Mark, Used, S&W.

I ordered one out of curiosity and since I have a pretty rough 4 inch barrel and cylinder that would match the expected finish.

The one I got was a 10-7. Nothing worth taking a picture of, very rough and abused but not a lot of evidence of firing. If you didn’t already have extra parts I’m not sure if these would be worth it. The importer stamp is inconspicuously located under the trigger guard.

I screwed on my 4 inch barrel and threaded in the longer ejector rod and here’s what we have. For about $200 I don’t know if it’s good or bad. I really wanted a gun to try rust bluing and I think this will make a good candidate.

The only other part I want to put in it is an oversized cylinder stop to correct some of the side to side cylinder shake. Otherwise it seems okay, I was worried the frame would be bent, who knows how they take the barrels off, but it seems okay

I have 2 of these waiting for me at my FFL's. I ordered a 2" and a 5" barrel off Ebay. Once I get everything together, I'll put up some photos.

Looking forward to seeing the end results!

Re: Gunsmith special

I'm with Tom, you made a good buy right there. I've got a cherry 10-5, and would be proud to fix that one of yours up. For many of us, safe queens just don't stoke our fire. I've got a few $35 .22's that will stuff a round up a fly's butt, which is the purpose, is it not? It's all about what makes each of us smile. Please show the final product.
Regards to all,
Bob

USAF M-13

Did you notice J & G had a Property Of U S Airforce M-13 for sale? Someone replaced the 2" bbl with a 4". Ser # C293xxx, top strap marked M-13

It would be a good project gun to build a 3 inch K frame, I have a thing for those.

Me too! I just built this one out of a 10-8 round butt 4 inch. Swapped in a cylinder and barrel from a 13-3.

I would like to build a 3” model 10 but I can’t find a barrel for sale anywhere. Also this 10-7 frame is different than a 10-6 or 10-8. The top front part of the frame is more rounded for a pencil barrel. The profile of the heavy 3” or 4” barrel is off slightly.

A 2" barrel can be had for about $60 + shipping on GB. Add that to $150 for the one in the OP's link + another $20 for a transfer you could have a decent M10 snubby shooter for less than $250 and a little work.

Yep. Pretty much what I'm doing. The 2" was $90, but the 5" cost me around $114. Since these frames were allegedly from 2" guns, I'll need a center pin and extractor rod for the 5" conversion, but I have those in the parts bin already. With the round butt, I think that's going to make a pretty nice shooter.

I ordered 2.

Does anyone know if the barrels were reimported? 4 inch tapered
bbls I've got but I would rather have 2" bbls. Numrich is out of
service at this time.

Also for standard 158gr lswc service loads what sight height
did 2" model 10's come with.

Got my 2 today. Both were carried a lot, never shot
foreign cop guns. Recoil shields were as new. Bone
dry with no burnishing on the inside. I hand tightened
a 4" barrel on one and it went to 20 degrees of top
dead center. Took about a hour with a needle file
to barrel it and another to adjust the center pin .
It runs good.

They have poorly stamped department serial
numbers on the frames forward of the triggergards.
The Century stamp is there also. Finish is good for
$170.00 guns. If she who must be obeyed would
let me, I'd get a couple more.

Mine shot good too but a few of the chambers are out of line when I check them with a range rod.

I’m not sure if I’m going to try to fit my other cylinder or let it go. I wanted to try to use this gun as a beginner rust blue project but I just can’t make up my mind yet. I already have 3 other K frame projects I’ve completed
