My model 10 no dash, 4 screw with a 3-inch heavy barrel. S&W Standard Catalog #4 puts the serial in 1960. Grips are not serial numbered so probably not original? Rosewood? Standard Catalog states 3-inch barrels were special order early on. So, my question being, are these seldom encountered as no dash model 10? I only know what I read in the Standard Catalog so any additional information you may have is appreciated. Thank you.

I have been enthusiastically collecting S&W revolvers in the Pacific Northwest for the past 12 years. I have only seen one 3" model 10. It was a worn out and overpriced -5. I'd say you scored yourself a real dandy one right there!

Standard Catalog states 3-inch barrels were special order early on.

If it was a special order the smooth presentation stocks might have been part of the order. A letter from Don Mundell (S&W Historical Foundation) would be the only way to know for sure.

That sure is a handsome creature.

M10 square butt 3" on the bottom was destined for Australia, but never made it. About NIB (I added the stocks).

Yes, various State Police departments here in Australia purchased Square Butt 3" Model 10's. I had one when I first joined New South Wales Police. No idea what Dash Number it was. As Police Departments used them, security guards also wanted them. There are quite a few on the secondhand market. I purchased one myself a few years ago. It was a 10-5.

3" K's are scarce and pricey anyway. A no dash is certainly a prize. It is definitely worth a letter

The 3"-ers are interesting.
Mine is a non-model marked M&P with a ship-date of 1958 per Mr. Jinks.
It's a tapered barrel, but in a 3" the taper is not as evident as in the 4" models.
It now wears proper diamond Magnas and gets carried on a pretty regular basis.
It came into a LGS where I was working a few years ago. I was off that day and it was laying there awaiting log-in when I returned.
Just "an old Model 10' to my boss. He made me lay out $150 for it! Came with a DeSantis K-3" pancake holster.
