Model 10 Price ? Posted in 1896-1961 too

I posted the in other sub forum too.. probably not supposed too Gun is from 1961 so it fits either.. here is probably more appropriate.
LGS has this pristine model 10 from 1961. The Revolver is 99%+. No refinish but it kooks like it is brand new. It has the matching/ original box (box is a worn) and a Helpful Hints pamphlet. Now for the stocks. They do not match..on last 2 numbers. Instead of
C 514x57 they say C514x17. Probably a factory error as they fit like they were fitted to gun. I would say maybe an armorer error but this gun has never seen a holster.
Asking $499. Seems about $100 high for a model 10 but in this condition I wanted some 2nd opinions.

The stocks were probably mismatched at the factory on assembly, someone saw the last 7 and put them on...wouldn't be surprised if 514x17 has your stocks .

I'd guess it is at a fair price, with the box and paperwork.

I think that is a very fair price for that pristine pistol with all the dressings. I would make an offer lower but would still snatch it up.

I do not think it is $100 high.

I used to see good serviceable M10s priced at $250 to $300 at my local gun shop. These showed a lot of holster wear plus assorted nicks, dings and scratches, but functioned perfectly. Nowdays, I think the price would be more like $350.

As you find them in higher and higher condition, of course the price goes up. The one you mention appears to be in the highest condition possible, with box and documents. So the asking price is very reasonable, to say the least.

I would buy it, but would only shoot it on nice days at the range. Others will say don't shoot it at all. Definitely don't buy it if you plan to carry it in a holster, etc.

BUY IT! It's priced fair w/box etc. My Mod. 10 is one of the nicest shooting guns I have.

Thank you all. This would be a safe queen as I don't own any that are in high condition. I have plenty of model 10/64s that are shooter grade. The ,38 spl m&p revolver is one of the simplest yet effective Guns SW produced. Over 1 million served! Over 100 years of service.

If you like it, buy now. I would try for $425. If you do not like the tape on the box, put it in the freezer and the tape should separate from the paper.

I concur, make an offer, haggle a little. Point out that it's not matching. That is a primo example for being over 50 years old. Used revolvers of any model are going for nearly that high, especially being in excellent shape. I don't collect but 'almost matching' isn't matching, so if it's for collecting I'd look for something REALLY matching. If I want a gun to shoot I'd be all over that one.

Ok, I don't know what the availability of guns like this one are in Buckeye territory, but here in TX that gun in that condition would be sold in a heart beat. I don't know what ya'll are finding out there in sub $500 guns but we sure aren't seeing anything like that in our LGSs. That is a beautiful gun and would it be more attractive if you could get it for less sure, but you would have to look harder and wider than your local shop. Model 10-5 or -6 with wear and tear in my neck of the woods are going for a minimum of 400 bucks up to 485 and that is private sales. Go negotiate and I bet you can have the beauty at a price you can live with. But I just don't think that gun is over priced by 100 bucks. I know you will have sales tax and all so just negotiate.

I understand all the advice about trying to get the best deal possible. Who would not like to save $50 - $100?

But I would take plenty o' cash and not leave the shop without that gun!

A pristine BNIB, 54 yr. old Model 10, with box and papers.....and you want it for $400? Dayyum, I would've paid $500 all day long and went back for more......
