I have a model 10 serial#242873 do you know what year it was made

With that serial number, it is probably not a Model 10 but perhaps a predecessor that's similar in configuration. See the sticky "To IDENTIFY your gun" in this forum. It tells you the information needed to give you data on your revolver. Pictures are always helpful.

Most importantly, are you reading the serial number from the bottom of the butt (grip), and is there a letter prefix, like a C or a D, in front of the number?

I'm guessing you have a .38 M&P hand ejector from about 1915. Should look a little like this one from 1914.

If that number is from the bottom of the grip frame, then very late 1915, but most likely early 1916. Must see pics!
