Hi all,I just cannot get over what a deal the model ten's are! Picked up a new to me clean M-10-7 standard four inch barrel with number matched PC magnas today. Paid just a little for a lot of revolver with no lock and no MIM. Could it be that the new gen shooters today are just too enamored of the "hold a box of cartridges tupperware and such" to appreciate a good revolver? Anyways due to lack of interest we can get a good bang for our buck! Really did not need another one, but like puppies and kittens they are too cute not to have a good home.

Yes they are a bargain. But they are only 6 shots, no night sights and no fancy ad campaign or paid off gun magazine writers to hype them. Besides, if the 9mm is almost as good as a 38spl, what is the 38 compared to?
My problem is that on the rare occasion that a decent one does show up for sale locally, it is sold in minutes.

VB,
You are so right! The only thing about 10's is that you have to buy them used, so you can find out whether they shoot to POA. I think most do, but I KNOW that some don't. I got a 4" SB blue 10-5 a couple of years ago that shoots to POA with 158s. Had cheap aftermarket grips on it, but the storeowner let me go through his grip box and find a correct set of PC magnas, and I already had a Tyler (probably one he had sold me cheap). I'm starting to get a reputation there as a home for orphan .38s. They also sold me a pre-15 a few years back, for about the same price. Both are great guns, were great guns, and will be great guns for some time to come.

You might be right Vulcan Bob, but whenever I let one of the young 'uns shoot my revolvers they are all smiles. There may still be hope for the younger generation...

You are right and they are great guns. Congratulations on the purchase.

very good guns i have 5 of them.its hard to pass on one at a gun show.I shoot IDPA with a standard barrel 1962 model 10. and it does its job well.so get all you can.

:) Model 10's are great, I just don't have one.
Been looking for a heavy barrel model 10 at
a decent price. Maybe a snub also. Don

this is funny after i post on here this morning i went to the local gun shop today and what do i see but a nickel model 10-8 in near new condition 4in heavy barrel.so now friday i will lay it away. see what did i say you cant pass one up.

The Model 10s are a bargain indeed. I got mine super cheap; free in fact. My stepdad gave it to me a couple of weeks ago, said he had too many and never shoots them. Mine is a heavy barrel, and I'll be trying it out at an IDPA match September 12. That reminds me, I need to look for my USB cable so I can post a pic of mine. My phone takes crappy pictures so I don't want to use that.

Model 10s are great. When they're right, they're really right. My range has a Model 10 range gun with about 50,000 rounds through it. Occasionally, I'll shoot it just for fun. It is dead on accurate and has an excellent trigger after years of use (and abuse).

An excellent book on the mod. 10 (M&P) revolver is:

America's Right Arm, The Smith & Wesson Military and Police Revolver.
By John Henwood

The book also includes most all the K frame Smith revolvers. Although all the pictures are in black & white, they're interesting. Warning: there are graphic photos of demilled victory models... it may make you cry.

I was stationed in Sacramento in the late 80's, and the newspaper had an ad from the Old Sacramento Armoury (2215 J St., IIRC). Police trade in M-10's for $129. So I go down, and asked to see them. The employee hoisted a big wooden crate with a pile of about 30 revolvers onto the counter, and said "take your pick". I still have the M10-2 that I got that day (well, 15 days AFTER I visited the store, in WAS California, still way better then than now). I also remember that they had 4" M-12's NIB for around $199. I bought a Luger the next year for $279.

Bought a Model 10 4 inch HB about two weeks ago for $140.00 SHIPPED! No pin, so it's after 1982 being a -8, but it's a great gun. Found it off of a thread posted in The Lounge. Gunsmith put in a .002 endshake bearing and a fourteen pound return spring, and it put two cylinders full of WWB ammo into about a three inch circle at fifteen yards. Glad that police department or security agency or whatever traded in all those old, outdated revolvers that don't shoot all that well!

Why would anybody buy a new revolver from Smith & Wesson. They cost twice as much as a used one, they have the dreaded lock, the blue is not as good, the grips are rubber. In the last few years I stocked up on models 10, 13, 14, 15, 19, and some others. These guns shoot lika a dreem, look beautiful and will out live me and the next few owners.

Sgt. Neutron, Old Sac Armory is GONE, (sob) so is El Bandito in Weimar, and he had tons of them.

I only have five or so, but two of them are what I call long throw hammers, and that is one sweet shootin' iron.

I don't care where they shoot, as long as I can keep the can bouncing that's good enough.

Last week I picked up a M10-5 with a 3" barrel and an unfired Model12-3. Both shot 158 grain bullets to POA. It wasn't scientific but good enough to make me happy. Best deals I've come across in a long time. :D

PS - Shooting a 34 year old virgin Model 12 was nice. Don't get to do that very often.

Early on in my "collecting" I was not much into Model 10's. Today, I won't pass one by.

I already had 2 m-10s, but the deal posted in the lounge part of the forum was just too juicy to pass up.

I purchased 4 m-10 HBs (2 10-6s and 2 10-8s)at $140 each, and 1 M-15-4 for $205.

I asked for "shooters" and was not disappointed.

All are nice and tight, with perfect timing.

We shot all 5 last night and the nicest looking ones shot great. I had reservations about the one junky looking one (almost no blue and had fluorescent painted sights ((green and orange- yuk!))), but it shot beyond reproach.

Oh, and my wife laid claim to my M15-4......Oh well. She deserves it for putting up with all of my "toy" buying.

Find a used M-10 and snap it up. It will be your secret favorite affair.
