MODEL 12-2 Junker

I never really knew why I bought this. It is not really keeping with my collecting character. This is a 1972 12-2 Airweight. When I got it, it was covered in rust, which is now gone, but the deep pitting remains. I removed the numbered grips, disassembled it, and soaked it and bronze brushed it over a 3 month period. Then it was air blown out, then bore scrubber, more air, and lubed. The chambers and bbl were polished with simichrome and a bronze brush on a drill. The lockup and timing are perfect. Great single and double action. Going to try it this weekend with some mid range full wadcutter match ammo I have.

Anybody else got a klunker?

Winchester "Defend" 130 grain JHPs are standard pressure and work very well for me in my 12-2.

You figure that if a lightweight J Frame that is +P rated is possible, then a lightweight K Frame +P snubby is certainly possible. An extra round, larger grip, better sights. Sort of a "Big Brother" to the J's.

Well maybe so but this is 1972 issue so I just do not know

I would love to have a gun like that. I can not help but be so careful with my guns that they end up owning me instead of me owning them. I have a couple of carry around guns that I don't mind banging up, but for the most part I am carefull to the point that it decreases my enjoyment. I used to think of Smith and Wesson revolvers as tools. After being on the forum for a while, I can't help but think of them as some rare artistic masterpiece that I must preserve for posterity at all costs. Enjoy that beater, carry it, shoot it, and even use the wrong ammo! Drop it, let the rain touch it, put it on the ground while tending to the campfire. Dim the lights in the garage and shower it with WD-40. Just make sure it will shoot if you need it to. Nice gun.

My problem exactly. That is why I bought this. I have a bunch of guns, some for 45 years. I had not bought a gun in 20 years. Then I went on a spree and bought 15+ in the last year. Problem is I bought too many fine or NIB guns, and now I do not waant to shoot them. I do need a couple worn, not abused shooters

Well as i said in the original post, this is off my collecting character. It was for sale on the want to sell forum on this site, and after table pounding negotiations, i got it shipped for 160.00. Believe me, it was tough looking when I got it. It is still in tough shape, but mechanically sound

They had the 315 Night Guard for a time that I saw as a modern model 12, and now they are hard to find and sxpensive!
Love the model 12. Someone on here posted a model 12-2 with a custom 2.5 inch barrel a while back, and I kept thinking it was perfect.

A three inch RB and a four inch SB with standard barrel rated for +P, please. And no lock, of course.

The frame is good, but I do not want to put more money into a snubby. I have 3 others, and that is plenty. 161.00, and i would not have bought this

Never gave it thought. I will if there is a next time. I got it, and it went right into a 3 month bath. Just visualize all that pitting as extreme brown corrosion. The guts were pretty good. Some corrosion on trigger and hammer, and underside of thumb latch for cylinder release
