New member here. I just picked up a M12-2, 2" 38spl, and test fired it today. Shoots great, I am thinking of getting a Tyler grip for it. Ser. # is D4755XX. I wasn't really looking for it, but I got it for $325+ a box of ammo....not too bad.

I've been lurking this site for info on my M19, 66, 686, 64, 10 and 657....yep addicted.

thanks for info,

I believe the serial# dates to about 1979.
Welcome to the Forum BTW!

Don't overlook BK Grips here on the forum. I have used 2 of them and cannot say enough of the durability and great feeling. Tyler T-grips also are excellent but can be a bit hard to get at times.

Thank you medic15al for info.
DWalt I actually looked it over with a flashlight. Nothing noticed out of the ordinary. I do have access to a/c dye penetrant which might not be a bad idea.

It took me two months to get Tyler to ship me a grip adapter. I made numerous phone calls to Bryan there. He promised he had just shipped it, would ship me another one, over night me one, etc. I finally got, but I'll never order from him again.

Bad service is one thing, making excuses and lying only makes it worse.

That's too bad to hear about Tyler, since I'm in Oklahoma too.
As far as serial # info, did you guys purchase the #3 or 4 book for the info or is the info available online. I rather buy the book than bug everyone about my serial #'s.

My prize pistol is probably my M19, it is R&P, bankvault lock-up. My 66 is awesome too, just more common.

Welcome, Soren. Glad you emerged from the Land of Lurk.

Yep, sounds as if you're addicted. Translation: you're hosed. :D

We'd love to see pictures of your M12 snubby.

Yes, I almost forgot that I have a 2213 & a M&P 22 pistol too....but I don't look at them the same as my S&W revolvers.

I'll see what I can do on the pic.

Do you mean KB grips, I didn't find anything on BK here.

Thank you KEN L for correcting my mistake. My apologies to the O.P. for the wrong info.

I'm thinking of joining the SWCA. I know an ffl that I've used for quite a while.....otherwise how does one get sponsored? I've got 11 S&W's at this point.....I guess I'm somewhat of a collector. I still want a 3" 66,65 or 686 for my collection.

Soren,

All you need to do is open the cylinder and look in the yoke cut, the bottom of the lunette. If it is cracked you will see it, no need to do a dye penetrant check. If it isn't I wouldn't give it another thought. I believe that while some airweight frames, both J and K sizes, have had lunette cracks, the problem is greatly over-rated. This is mostly spread by those who "Heard about it on the internet" and have neither experienced this themselves nor ever seen a cracked frame! Steel frames have been known to crack too!

I have owned 3 M-12s, and have fired ammunition that far exceeds +P*** in one of them in the past, several hundred rounds, with no ill effect! I still own and regularly shoot 2 of them.

*** Speer #8 data, when I still, as many still do, believed that "If it is published in a manual it is safe!" Unfortunately this is not necessarily true!

Hey Soren, welcome to the Forum. I am in Oklahoma too. Nice to have you here.
As far as the SC of SW, the 3rd Edition is fine for serial number lookup, although if you're not in a hurry you can wait for the new 4th due out "soon".
