Model 14-3

Hi everyone
I am new and look forward to the discussions.
I was at a local gun dealer last weekend and they had a S&w
14-3 Ser 6K 324xx with a 4 inch barrel. The barrel is worn from being in a holster. I am going to say it is probably about 80%. They are asking $ 575.00, which I think is high but I cannot find much on this weapon with a 4 inch barrel.
Any information that you can supply and advise on the price would be appreciated

That is because they weren't made in that barrel length and in 1965 they made 1040 with 4 inch barrel with the heavy barrel and they were Dayton (Ohio) Police revolvers. The 14-3 came out in 1967 so that one in the gun store is not one of them which means someone changed the barrel out from a 4 inch 38 special like the Model 10, 15, or 16 or had the original 6 inch barrel in 38 special barrel cut back to 4 inches.

You don't mention what state you are in. I have a 14-2 in 4" barrel that was cut down by the Los Angeles Police Department when they ended issuing 2 and 6 inch revolvers to standardize on 4" S&W revolvers. After issuing the cut down Model 14's they bought and issued model 15's. The only way to tell where it originated would be with a factory letter. Mine was originally shipped to the Olympic trading company In LA, and was shipped without grips.
