I have a model 14-4 of a friends. I am trying to determine how the front sight comes off. It doesn't look pinned and appears to be pressed in. Does anyone know for sure on the proper removal?

What I'm trying to accomplish is either changing the front sight with a Hi-Viz type or just cutting an insert. Currently the sight is straight black steel with no insert or dot; it makes it difficult for him to see. (Me too)

Any help will be appreciated very much.

Thanks!

I'm no expert on the model 14 but I can tell you that on my LH 24-3 the pin or pins that hold the sight in place are darn hard to see unless you get the light just right. If there is a pin or pins holding the sight in place best to have something like a bench block hold the revolver down while you try to remove them. And check your punches for burrs on the end. Some very fine silicon carbide paper will remove the burrs. The burrs tend to scratch the metal around the hole and leave unsightly marks on the pins. Better safe than sorry. Frank
