Looking at a 6" Model 14. Are they very popular and/or desireable as a shooter? Worth as much as the same gun with a 4" barrel .Any thoughts ?

Barrel length is a personal preference. Shorter barrels are more desirable at this time in the market. Add to that 4-inch M14's aren't very common, so they go for a "double" premium due to scarcity and the fact people want guns with shorter barrels. As an option, there is the very common 4-inch M15 with a lighter profile barrel. These are some of the most affordable K-frames you can find. IINM some of the later issue's of the M15 did have a heavy barrel (like from the '90's on), making it essentially a 4-inch M14.

I just recently (March) bought a Md 14-2 with a 6 inch barrel. I couldn't be happier! Once I got the sights adjusted, it is a (sorry for the cliche) true tack driver. I was questioning myself when I bought it. Why do I need this? Well, now I'm very grateful for laying the money down and taking home a superb gun. Actually, I wanted a 4 inch barrel, but now I'm quite happy with the 6 inch and have zero regrets about it not being a 4 inch. if condition and price is right, buy it.

Hi, I have a 14-3 that I bought last August. It is everything I thought it would be & more! 6" gun found on G.B. for a very reasonable price. Bob

My only six inch at this time is a m14 vintage 1974. In the safe don't recall the dash. Target stocks, very accurate very nice bluing not used much. Similar to
my 15-3 4 inch. I do prefer four inch just like the looks and feel of them but this 14 I'll keep.

I have a 14-4 that's been in our family since it was new. It is the most accurate revolver I've shot. Plus it has the best SA trigger of my S&W revolvers. Yes, the M14 is a great shooter! Shoot a box of 148gr wadcutters and you'll see what I mean.

Think of it this way, if the M10 is like the hunting knife you keep on your belt, the M14 is your scalpel.

Like others have said the Model 14's are accurate and a pleasure to shoot. For the range I prefer a 6 inch barrel on a revolver and besides 4 inch Model 14's are much rarer and are more expensive.
