Model 15-2

I've acquired a Model 15-2 which means it could have been made from 1961-1967. The serial number is K536509 if anyone can get me closer to the year it was made. It came with a box, but there's none of the S&W VCI paper inside. Anyone know a source for a sheet of this? Thanks in advance for the help.

I had a Model 15-2 serial# K559xxx shipped in June, 1964.
S&W didn't ship in serial number order, but that should get you in the ballpark.

Brownells and S&W sell the vapor paper. I use Brownells because I get free shipping from them and they are a little cheaper than S&W.

That is a very nice gun and looks like a well maintained and/or hardly shot model 15! Was made in one of my favorite era's of S&W. Still some crafstmanship and a little hand fitting put into the gun's built then. The box even looks in really good shape. Enjoy!

Smith & Wesson sells the VOC paper and it has their logo on it too. Sometimes when they are in a good mood they'll send you a few sheets gratis.

BTW contrary to what some believe, it's not a bad idea to save the old VOC or waxed paper (as a collectible original) but replace it with a new fresh sheet because the VOC chemicals only last a few years then they are gone. I save the original, fold it neatly and put it in the bottom of the box as part of the original accouterments but do replace the VOC paper every few years or so.

Keep in mind that the vapor paper that S&W uses today has a different look than the paper used when your 15-2 was made. Basically the same stuff, but the printed pattern is different.

I like chief38's idea of keeping the old stuff but replacing it with new paper for functionality.

I am not even sure if the vintage S&W paper was actually VOC treated. It might just be plain waxed paper. I often wondered about that. I just looked at some of my vintage paper and to me it just seems like it's a heavy gauge waxed paper. Maybe some of the SWCA Guys would know.

Those are neat guns. I picked one up years ago, surplus from the CA DMV via Cake-Davis in Sacramento. Mine is a 2" SB and it shoots very nicely indeed.
