$200 is certainly not a fair price, to the seller. I would love to find a 15 for 2 or 3 times that amount, especially with a 2" barrel.

I bought a 4" 15 last year, in decent shape, with Pachmyer grips for $450 and didn't feel like I got a bad deal.

Just my $0.02 worth.

Well, first off, this is your friend. I would let him know about the true value of the gun. He's your friend. I would think that you owe him that. Then let him make a decision. Maybe you could negotiate a deal for both of you. You will be getting a very nice (and desirable) revolver. Perhaps at a good price. This is a golden rule matter in my opinion. Unfortunately, it is what it is..... $200 is a great price. Would we all have a friend with one of ANY great old Smith revolver.....at a good price. It isn't like going into a store with one of these in the shelf. Most of us would break a finger or our hand getting our wallet out....! But.... If it were me, I'd tell him that he has a great revolver and you want it but negotiate the price. Or at least let him set a price after better info as to value.

Holsters: I've always liked Tex Shoemaker for holsters. Lots of good holsters on this forum for sale (good used ones). Bianchi is still making holsters but I am not sure that the quality is as good as when himself was running the business in Temecula. Many current manufacturers advertise here also. Barranti is a great maker, located in Pittsburgh. I have one of his and the quality is fabulous. Good luck. I hope that you get that revolver.

Qualification: Not meaning to imply that you haven't already thought this out. Making my statements in re: your request for comment. In any case, I guess that you will be discussing the price with him. Hoping that you do well on price for this and your pal gets a price that he can live with.

You're a good man, Hawkeye. A lot of people I've known would rush to screw a friend on a deal like that.

I'm confident you'll work out something agreeable and fair to both of you.

Model 15 2" fair price

I bought this one, in the middle of the photo, for maybe $300 or so some 10 or 15 years ago. I had it reblued locally, as it had some pitting and wear.

It's no collector's item but I wouldn't part with it for less than $500 IF I ever decided to sell it, which is likely to be never!

Thank you all , plan on inviting my friend over for some range time behind the house and will discuss approx. value a little closer to reality. tight groups to all

OK , negotiating after informing him as to the info you guys so kindly offered, he needs 10 shot drop free.40 cal s&w mags for his glock 23 anyone know the best place to order them again thanks to u all, rich

Any functional 2" model 15 is worth $200 (or 10 $19.99 Glock mags, plus shipping ;)).

However, if it is a "no-dash" model 15, it is too early for it to have a factory original 2" barrel - this first started with the 15-2 in 1964. Wouldn't let that keep you from offering, say, $220 for it. (Just kidding.)

The Model 15-2 snub and the 4" frame are slightly different where the top strap meets the barrel as the snub version uses a thicker wider rib barrel that is more like the snub 19 barrel minus shroud, Could be the -2 did not strike the yoke cut which is not uncommon but double Check its a 3 screw frame not an altered 4 screw four inch frame.

The Model 19, 66 and 15 snubs all use a longer rear site unit (shown left) that mates to the FS ramp base.
Standard rear site units stop just short of the barrel rib (right) and the frame steps down to the barrel rib.

It is a 15-2 my buddy missed the 2. All checks #s match on grips. Only drawback bluing worn on frame right side previous owner lefty, not that there is anything wrong with that. Is bluing worth doing ,if so how will it affect worth of piece? I guess that is a moot ? will never sell it. thanks again for your invaluable advice and info. looking to find another tight groups rich
