Good local gun show today. Gentleman had this nice 17-2 sitting in the box. Box is period correct and it has a new label (at least he admitted it) and also has some 'new old stock' grips (he said he replaced them too) Gun looks to be in high 90s percent. Has been fired, but not too much. Good lock-up and excellent finish. Made about 1965 from what I can tell. I am pleased as I have not seen many 17-2 around. Are these the correct stocks or should they have a diamond in the center?

A 1965 gun would have diamond Magnas. There's an outside chance it might have had diamond targets, but those would be a special order kind of thing, and highly unlikely. Its a nice gun, have fun with it.

I agree with your date - K633xxx should indicate a 1965 revolver. Since the diamond grips were continued until 1968, this gun should have a pair on it.
Otherwise, the gun appears to have been well-cared-for and is a nice find, especially with the original box (altered though it may be).
I have a dash 3 I bought new when I got back from my second "trip" to SE Asia that I have used pretty hard over the years. It's still a wonderful little revolver. I also have a one-liner from 1947. Still don't have a dash 2. Would love to find one in this condition - nice to look at but not so nice you don't want to shoot it.
Thanks for posting the pictures.
Regards,
JP

Guess I'll be needing a pair of diamond magnas or targets.
Anyone?
Sorry. Just checked my box. I have a couple spare sets for a J frame and one for an N frame; but none for the K.
I'm sure somebody here has a set they want to sell. Or you can check eBay.

Congratulations on the purchase and the S&W K22/17 revolver is one of my favorite shooters and you will love it. I picked up a 17-1 4 screw revolver about a month ago and it's a nice shooter grade gun also.

Do you mind me asking what you paid?

My Dad just purchased a nice 17-2 a few weeks ago from a pawn shop for $375. We tried to get them to go lower, but no deal, so settled on $ 375 OTD and its a sweet shooter!

Let's just say that you got a good deal. I paid a little more than that.

Well to be fair, his is beat up pretty good, someone didn't take very good care of it, pitting here and there but it shoots
Yours is in excellent condition
