I just acquired a 6" 17-6 from an estate sale without the full underlug. The SCSW puts the serial number at August 1989, and makes mention of some early 17-6's without the full lug. My questions are, are there any estimates of the number produced of this variation, and is there any premium (or loss) over the value of a full lug version? Thanks in advance for any information.

Welcome! I suspect the factory didn't track the production numbers of each variation. I would guess their values are about the same; for every person who likes the extra muzzle weight, there would be someone else who doesn't or who doesn't have the lighter barrel variation in their collection. Hope this is helpful.

Thank you murphydog. I always try to learn as much as I can about anything that goes into the collection. Unfortunately, this revolver did not have the correct stocks, so I'll need to find an appropriate set. I appreciate your response.

To add to what murphydog said, the full underlug versions came standard with combat stocks which are worth $150-$175 by theirselves. I think the non underlug just came with magnas.

Full underlug does get a premium in the blue book. I haven't seen a clean one go for less than $800 on gunbroker lately, most for $850-900+ with the box and correct stocks.

There I go getting in trouble for assuming something. I assumed that with the likelihood that there are fewer no lug than full lug guns, they might be the ones that would bring a premium. Great info. Thanks.

The non full underlug 17-5 and 17-6 also came in a 4" length which adds a premium over the 6" and longer versions IMO.
