Model 17?

I have a S&W K frame.22 LR with a 4" barrel. It has what I believe is called a Mcgivern front sight and adjustable rear sight. I don't see any model stamped on it and am looking for information as to what it is and what a value might be.

The revolver was made in 1949 based on the serial number so there wouldn't be a model number stamped on it. I believe it's a pre model 18 as they were the 4 inch 22LR and their first year was 1949.

I have a 4" K-22 Masterpiece that is just a few numbers from yours.
It letters as a 4" and was in a shipment of 20 same configuration that went to Sacramento, CA.

I have a technical question, since I'm not particularly computer-savvy. Do those time stamps indicate that you just TOOK the original pictures, just COPIED or modified then copied them to whatever format you posted via the S&WForum sysyem, or actually PUT THEM into the S&W system for posting?

The sight is like the one that RdrBill sent in. I don't see anywhere the model number but the lettering on the sides of the barrel are scriptive sort of. It definitely has only one pin holding the front sight in place.

I was unable to see any confirmation of a McGivern Gold Bead front sight but haven't lost hope. A first year Combat Masterpiece is a great find in its self but with "Special Order" equipment a super bonus.

As others have stated your gun is an early 4" K-22 Combat Masterpiece,

The earliest known post war 4" K-22 CM's are in your serial range and have the same front site (from the 6" K-22 Masterpiece)
so it looks correct with the exception of the PC Magna stocks which are from several years later.

The 4" K-38 Combat Masterpiece first appears around the same time but I do not know if they had the Patridge FS like their K-22 counterparts or the Baughman blade on long ramp as first cataloged in the 1950 AMC.

PS your gun pre dates the use of the Model marking system by around 10 years or so .
