Model 18 Extractor Rod Thread Direction?

Before I try to remove the extractor rod on my Model 18, I want to double check that it is RH thread. Everything I read in SCSW 4 and Kuhnhausen says to expect RH, but Kuhnhausen also says that its possible to have a LH thread, pre-1960. My 18 is circa 1958. Exactly how often did this happen? Should I be concerned, or just assume RH? Rod is on tight, so I want to have some confidence in thread direction, before I start "muscling" it. (Yes, I have the appropriate tool for the rod)

If the knurling transitions smoothly onto the ejector rod, it is LH thread and if there is a small turned depression between the knurling and the rod it is RH thread. Easy to feel with a fingernail.

Just the opposite.

K & N frames extractor rod threads changed to left hand thread in the ~ 1960-62 period and will have a dash number (different dash #s for different models) to indicate it, but not always!

(Note: I frames changed after WW II. J frames were introduced with L/H thread in 1950.)

Therefore this groove cut behind the extractor rod knurled tip shown in photo, denotes left hand thread.
An "L" stamped on the cyl face also denotes Left-Hand extractor rod threads.

Sure enough, all of my Smiths have the groove next to the knurling, except for that M18. I will proceed assuming RH thread.
