Model 18 Pics

Hi all,

I have a couple of these with one still in box with all the goodies but, I just thought I would show a pic of my newer Model 18-3 as I recieved it. Darkest Target grips I have seen and , most likely , did not come on the gun but , they look real nice on it. Show me some more pics of the Model 18 please.

You surely got a nice -3 there - it looks like new.

I'll be happy to show mine again. It's a -4. I've recently learned that my grips aren't original to the gun, either.

My Model 18 is a fine shooter and just a little picky about being clean when I start but, I can live with it. The other is a Model 18-2 with the original diamond-magna grips but no box or tools , just paperwork that came with it. Kinda funny they would save the paperwork and not the box or tools.

I actually have one more Model 18-4 that almost forgot about and it still has the Bangor-Punta box, is all original and an unopened set of original tools for it and paperwork.

All 3 of my model 18's have nary a scratch and no blueing loss anywhere on them. They are probably too nice to give to the Grandsons as they would be mighty tempted to sell them but ...... we'll see later. Thanks again for the compliment on the one shown.

Model 18-2 and 18-3

The first was my father's model 18-2. The original magna stocks are numbered to the pistol. The second is my model 18-3. The magna stocks are original but not numbered. There were many bricks of .22 shot on Saturdays. Money could not buy either one.

Here's a 17-3 and an 18-3. Can't decide which I like better. Both wear Tyler Ts.

Here's mine..what strange is that is it marked 17-3 but I'm pretty sure it is an 18-3. It's a great shooter!

Bottom to top S&W Models 18-2, 18-3 and the last of the tall narrow rib Taper barrel Baughman sited Non IL line the 18-4 .

The Model 18 was replaced by the 4" heavy barrel 17-5 probably as a cost cutting measure .
The 17-5 below still has a Baughman site but the new heavy barrel mates to the square shoulders of the M17 frame.

While some early 4" 17-6 models are found with the 17-5 blued HB like above ,
Later models transitioned into the full underlug shown below.
This same gun in stainless steel became the 617.

New IL model 18's have a Patridge style site identicle to the new Model 17 line and look like this:

I guess I am just a little partial to the old Model 18's but the new one is a nice looking revolver.
