Model 18 with TT & TH....How Common?

Here is my 18-3 with 3 T's. After doing some research I feel that the TT and TH are fairly common on these guns. I don't have the box so I can't honestly say they are original. To be honest I don't care that much. The gun is a beauty and I love to shoot it. Like all Smith's if you take care of them they will appreciate over time.

That certainly looks like -3 era stocks. S&W must have procured some really nice GA wood at that time. One of the interesting things about my letter is Roy specified walnut target stocks which they are. The 18-2 is a fine shooter as well but I normally take out a shooter grade pre-17 to the woods. All hail the S&W .22 revolvers.

Model 18 with TT and TH.

Here's my 18-4 TT TH in the foreground. Have the original box marked as such and the matching SN 89K7029. The 19-3 in the background is also a TT TH with box and matching SN 7K67718.

Like to know what years these are. Help please.

I've had 2 over the years, one with all service parts. The other all target. They both shot good.

I prefer the narrow smooth service trigger personally, and the larger target grips fit my hand better. The service hammer is less prone to snag when the revolver is pulled from holster.

My 2 cents

I know of a shop that ordered ALL of his S&W's with extra options. The options added a little more profit to each gun so he always ordered extra's. I vividly recall a 6" M-28 with 3T's and RR/WO in his case.

The last batch of M-28-3's we got at the Highway Patrol in the mid 80's came with smooth COMBAT triggers. No idea if we ordered them that way or they were simply using up combat triggers?

I've grown to find very little surprising when it comes to odd S&W's.

I'm a little late here but my Md 18 no dash from ca. 1959 has a target hammer but standard trigger.

My M18-4, 24K5909, came new with TH, TT, and Magnas. I shoot D/A almost exclusively, so I replaced the trigger with a service trigger that I Dremeled the serrations off of and then polished smooth. Its a perfect counterpart for my M19-2 which also has a polished service trigger.

The target options are not rare, but certainly not common. My 1953 model has a target hammer, but the rest is standard. I have an all target model 48-2, which is not something you see every day, either. Those old 18's are great revolvers.

I'll throw in my $0.02. I have an 18-2 that has the 3 T's but no box. Parts are easy to change with the stocks being the easiest. The gun is so handsome I had to get a letter. No disappointment. Not rare but somewhat unusual with factory verification.

Tom, that one shipped on my first birthday! I need to trade you out of that one. ;)
