I'm new to the gun scene. Received this model 19-3 .357 magnum a while back in a trade with some other items. So please educate me on this thing. It does have some wear marks, but seems to be in good shape. Hogue grips. When was it made, what's it worth and everything else. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Welcome aboard. To help truly date it, please open up the cylinder and tell us the model and serial number. Should be something like... Model 19-3

4K12345 - you can xx out the last two digits if you would like a bit of privacy.

Good shooter that still has the trigger stop in place.

It's a 4" barrel, pinned and recessed .357 Magnum revolver, with non factory grips and some finish problems.

The M-19 is one of the finest carry revolvers Smith and Wesson ever produced, and were a L/E staple for years. I carried one to work every day for 27 years.

As for value perhaps $350.00 - $400.00 to the right person.

Welcome to the Forum.
Your Combat Magnum (That's what they called it when it first came out in the '50s) was born in late 1970, according to the Catalog.
Looks like it will be a good shooter.

Thanks for your 27 years of service old bear. Not neccesarily looking to sell, just really didn't know what i have.

More than likely shipped in 1970,
After a thorough cleaning and replacing the rubber grips with a nice set of original era Goncalvo Alves wood target stocks you will be surprised how nice it looks not to mention its trigger and accuracy.

Nickel and blue were finish options where the SS version on the far left got its own model number as the Model 66.
The correct style grips for your gun are the two at left called "football relieved" GA targets,
the pair at right are later style and called "Speed loader cut" GA targets.

Smooth "Presentation" grips are also an option,
( the early pair above are from the 1950's so do not have the football shaped relief cut ).

Thanks for all the welcomes. Have been cruising this forum for the last couple of hours and have learned a lot. Dangit! I've realized I don't have enough guns! Can you ever have enough? Is this how the bug starts? lol. Thanks again.

Yep, welcome to the club. I'm working on getting a 19 too, will see if that deal works out. Ask for the "Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson" for Christmas - and stick around here. You will find hours of enjoyment, great folks and beautiful guns. Glad I was the first to say howdy!

Deja Vu!

Welcome to the forum Lee73!

Your post almost seemed like deja vu. I just picked up a 19-3 myself from a pawn shop earlier this week. I had been wanting another model 28 to replace the one I sold many years ago, but I found my M19 and couldn't pass it up. Mine has a lot of holster wear, probably more than yours, based upon the photo you posted. The serial number on mine is 2K473xx. Mine also has the rubber stocks, which I would like to replace.

Thanks to Engine49guy for the photos above. Now I have an idea of what I'm looking for to put on my M19.

I have...well... a few M19s and I really like the look and feel of this S&W model. I especially like the 4" and 2.5" versions. Now that you have gotten your first one, I can tell you, it will not be the last. Since you posted a pic of your M19, blued, now you can look for a nickel, then a stainless, (M66), and so on.
Here is a pic of some M19s, a M66, and a M12.

19-3

JCS&W,
Is that a stock finish on the left? That is one pretty firearm. I have a 19-3 that is 99+% and I love the blue. I would like to find one like yours.
