Hi guys,

I just got a model 19-4 (1982), without pinned barrel and with countebore.
It's new because it was in a collection. Less then fifty rounds have been shoot with this gun..
I guess it is one of the early models without pinned barrel. This is my first S&W revolver.

Is it true that in these models of the early eighties there is the risk that the barrel turn on itself?

Thank you in advance for any information.

Welcome to the forum.

I've never heard that before and have never seen a S&W barrel move, unless there was a crack in the frame or forcing cone. The barrel pin was unnecessary long before they dropped it.

You have a fine gun; shoot it and enjoy!

T Bone.

The rifling in the bore is turned in the direction so as to torque the barrel
tighter if it were ever loose.

There is and has never been any issue with Smith & Wesson revolvers
having barrels come loose.

Shoot it or collect it . Sounds like you got a really nice one.

Good luck

Only problem with S&Ws' moving is the inexorable migration of more and more of them to your safe over time . The barrels sometimes do lead the way.

What no pictures?
We have a member that tracks features on Model 19's like your transitional Model.
One debacle is some late Model 19-4's had a small left side logo.
Does yours have a large right side trademark or small left side?
Guessing the serial starts with the letters AA ?

Allen,
I think you mant "There is not " and has never been.
