I have a model 19-4, 4" barrel in excellent condition. It was manufactured in 1980. How can I tell if it's a pinned barrel and recessed cylinder. Thanks.

If it's pinned, the ends of the pin will be seen protruding slightly on either side of the frame at its top front, where the barrel screws in. If it's recessed, when you insert a cartridge in the cylinder its rim will be completely surrounded by the cylinder bore and ejector star.

Welcome to the forum.
Take a look at the pictures attached. They're both pinned barrel revolvers, but the loaded one is not recessed (the cartridge rims do not fit into a recess) where the unloaded one is (look closely and you'll see the recesses machined for the cartridge rims).
