Model 19-6

My uncle handed down to me his Model 19-6 (model SBNA8xxx), with box and I have been combing the internet for information. Serial prefix BNA8xxx, Special order code 2191 4263. 2-1/2" barrel, round bottom, blued. Was hoping someone could help identify the meaning of the special order code and date of origin. I think 1988-1990 based off the little information available online.

Beautiful gun, I love M-19s but I've never owned one with the 2-1/2" barrel, it has no turn line so it may have never been fired.

I don’t have any references handy at the moment, but I’m sure someone will come along with the info you’re looking for. I own a similar gun, but can’t recall when I bought it. It’s not as pretty as my similar 19-3, but for a user/shooter I’d put the -6 up there with any 19/66 I’ve ever owned. You’re lucky to have come into one in such nice shape! Congratulations on your new-to-you Combat Magnum!

According to SCSW #4, 19-6 series were built from 1988 to 1992. It also shows serial numbers starting with BNA as being 1992 production. In 1992 only blue finish was cataloged. In addition the first four digits of your spec order are the date it was manufactured the 2 would be 1992 and the 191 is the 191st day of 1992 which would be July 9th. Hope this helps.

Very nice example of a great Model. Border Patrolman and World class shooter Bill Jorden convinced S&W to design the Model 19 so Lawman could have the 357 MGN power in the smaller K frame version. 357 MGN revolvers have been getting smaller ever since, currently at about about 13 ounces.
BTW, revolvers are either round or square butted.
"Round bottoms" refers to something else!
