I noticed some small spots on the trigger guard of my blued model 19. It is otherwise pristine. These spots are very small, like the size of a needle point - have to kinda squint to see them. I assume it's rust since this was probably in a box unfired for about 25 years. Anything else it could be? I keep the gun well cleaned and oiled now. Should I try to work the spots out or leave it alone? Thanks for any advice.

I'd try some flitz polish, if it is rust that'd clean it up some, other than that I'd not mess with it

I'd try rubbing them gently with a pencil eraser first.

If that didn't work I would use A LITTLE FLITZ...not too much......like a little on the end of a Q-tip and rub it gently. Flitz is an abrasive and will remove blue. Ask me how I know that ;)

Good luck! Regards 18DAI.

Ouch!! Mental note taken.

Before I tried anything abrasive... I'd try Break Free on a soft patch, or denim if more rubbing needed. The oil will penitrate & kill the rust stopping it from continuing. Either keep it oiled inside & out with a film of good gun oil or wax the exterior.

I'll try it out then. I've used Hoppes and MPro 7. Both are great products but they've made little to no difference on the spots under the trigger guard.

Nothing is going to reblue the rust spots... they are part of it's history. Sometimes rust streaks spread beyond the damaged area, this BF will remove. BF will penitrate & halt the rust. You'll end up with a couple of spots with patina.

Refinishing the gun will cost money & reduce it's collector value... way too extreme for the damage you describe. Sorry if I was unclear.
