Got a chance to get a Model 19 for $400. Don't know the variant but it's a 4".

Reasonable price, clues, hints - said to be in excellent condition?

Thanks.

IMHO it's a good price for a P&R gun with blued finish and no box, papers, or tools, but it's a smidgeon high for the same gun that's not P&R. OTOH if you add nickel finish and/or the box with papers and tools, you have a pretty good deal, P&R or not.

OTOH this is highly dependent on condition. I'm assuming it's in truly "excellent" condition, a 95% gun.

Glenn, that price is about what a nice 19-low number would go for here. Ive kept an old 19-3 4" as a knockabout gun for several years and never felt under-gunned. 'Course we aint got crocs or big bear here, either.

As to hints or tips, I'd just give it the standard check most folks run on D.A. revolvers.

Mine is especially fond of Skeeter's "everyday load", for .357s only, using the Lyman .358156 SWC GC in 38 Special brass, seated out to crimp in the 2nd groove.

One evening at our club, our range officer walked by my booth, picked up my 19-3 x 4". Knowing how many wheelguns I own, he said,
"Ya-know, this is all you really need..."
....He's right....

I saw a Model 19 (unknown variant) at a local gun store today for $600, no box.

Model 19? In excellent condition? $400

No brainer, Buy it! They ain't gettin' no cheaper.

I bought a 19-7 LNIB for $500 earlier this year.

Good luck!

After reading this forum and doing some reference book research, I looked for a couple months and bought this Model 19-2 for $325 w/ box and papers from the original owner. I intend to use this as an all around firearm, my first revolver. I think the grips need to be changed, to something else.

Any members care to recommend an under coat cross draw holster for the 19-2 suitable for hiking?

You should be arrested for theft.

At this point in time you will RARELY find a model 19 in both excellent shooting condition AND cosmetically near new looking ,
for Under $400

Even the unpinned later models sell for this.

Picked this 19-5 up a couple weeks ago for $400 at the Fresno show.

Well, I bought it! I'll scan and report later. The DA pull is so smooth. Back to Holiday things - just got a break from the festivities.

The gun store was jammed to the gills.
