Hi Gents,
I recently had a guy bring in what he said was a Model 19, but when it arrived it had fixed sights. I was about to show my expertise in S&W model identification, and tell him it was actually a Model 13, when I noticed it was stamped Mod 19-P. I'm assuming it is a "police" model, but why not just call it a Model 13? Anybody ever seen one before?
Intrigued to know.
Serial # AVZ1723, 4" , .312 SC Trigger, HB

Yes they are out there but are seldom seen. The M19-Ps are basically 19-5's but have fixed sights. They were produced in 2.5" and 4".
There were 3218 of them produced, but I do not know the break down of 4" to 2.5".
1500 to Peru
1237 to Wischo in Germany
481 sold domestically.
Product code is 100727
It should have a narrow yellow 'stripe' vertical on the front sight, .312 smooth combat trigger, it has the narrow .265" service hammer you'd expect to see on a Model 10, not a .375" semi-target you're used to seeing on a Model 19.

Here is mine.

Thanks,
I expect this one went to Wischo in Germany, and ended up in Ireland. I must admit the extractor shroud should have been the give away, but I was more intrigued by the fixed sights. This one didn't have the yellow on the FS.
So much information in a matter of minutes, isn't it working hours over there?
Cheers

Gee Whiz JWC

I'm gonna pull out my S&W book and see if I can find something you don't have. Rock on!

PS Hey Wilson, J is the S&W Guru of the Peach State. His willingness to help out others with questions is only bested by his modesty. And his photography skills.

Just sitting here looking at that model 19-P ........ and I'm thinking, for me, this would be the PERFECT .357 revolver.

WOW, that is bona fide simplicity at its finest! I guess my 13-3 is as close as I'll get.

That's strange !

As good a place as anywhere to say "Hello !" I suppose, as I own the Model 19 P that Richard is talking about !!

And I must say that I was as happy as a clam when I got it back from him, tuned to perfection and with all this information ! (He also did a hell of a good job on my Model of 1989 too !)

So thanks Richard, and thanks you guys who were on the spot with the facts !!

Cheers

Tim

The 2.5 inch in that model would make a perfect concealed carry .357 IMO.
Thanks for sharing the information.
