Model 1917 Brazilian Question

Smoke Wagon Afficionados,
My S&W model 1917 (1937) Brazilian has an importers mark under the barrel, which all I can read is "##CO. CA" The idiot who stamped it put it right on top of the serial number, which for my Brazilian, is 167,###. The first two letters are obscured, any ideas on the importing company's name? My revolver has no US military markings and surprisingly, no rust! Thanks for any help, WaistGunner

I have an 1896 Mauser pistol marked IA CO SAC CA.

This should be a company in Sacramento, California. They imported humongous numbers of surplus guns back in the late 1980's.

Awesome John Traveler, that is it exactly now that I "Look" at it in the right light. Well, this revolver didn't travel far from where it was imported, about 15 miles to its current home...Thanks again, WaistGunner

We drove thru Sacrament in November, and they looked like they were out of business. Or just moved?

The one I just got, SN 192xxx is stamped in the same way "IA CO SAC CA" right over the barrel serial number. I guess this is better than the first one I had from Century Arms, which was stamped on the bottom of the barrel under the front sight.

Yeah, the M1937 Brazilians I had (190xxx and 187xxx) were also imported by Century Arms, and they stamped their import marks on the underside of the barrel, under the front sight. One was stamped so hard that it left a sizable DENT in the rifling!
