Model 22A1 Issues

Figured I would post this picture of my 22S All Stainless Steel, weighing 41 ounces, purchased new in 2000.

Looks as though the frame has changed a bit.

Yeah I see that. I tend to like heavier target pistols. Want to trade lowers? LOL! I also noticed no magazine disconnect on yours.

True but it makes you think why it would crack right were the casting marks are. Hmmmmmm...... Not worried since I know S&W will give me a new frame.

Could be wrong, but some of the frames are metal and some are mostly polymer??? I think the broken frame in that picture you're referring to is metal. Why would it crack?? I can't really say. Could have been a defect in that particular frame or it could have been thrown against a wall. Not impying that it was. I had one with your type of frame and they are built to last. I only got rid of mine 'cause I didn't like the rail that you could not remove. Got a Ruger MkIII 22/45 to replace it. Enjoy yours. It's a fine pistol.

If you mean the magazine release, its located to the front of the grip frame, you can see it, a black button. The Model 41 has it in a more normal position.

Everything I own is all steel:cool:, nothing that has the name Alloy attached to it, just my preference. But of course in time, steel is slowly disappearing to be replaced by poly and alloys, which it seems the gun market is demanding.

No I mean magazine disconnect. I have the 22A above pictured.

OK, mine made in 2000 can be fired with the mag removed. I guess sometime after, it was added preventing this action.

I will not trade lowers with you, sorry.:D

I think when they went from the steel lower to the aluminum lower they added it. For me it is not a big deal. Many people do not like it though.

No trade on lowers? Well it was worth a shot!:p

Not to hijack the thread, but I've heard the mag safety can be easily removed with needle-nosed pliers after removing the left grip. I've heard doing so improves the trigger pull. I've also heard that it can easily be put back in by hand.

Just what I've heard, mind you...

I have used my 22 a1 for about a 1000 rounds and where the recoil spring guide rod rests on the indentation in the frame has worn and elongated up to the upper edge of the frame - damaging the frame. SW say this is normal wear. Any suggestions on why this happened? The plastic pad is in good condition.
