Model 23-2 (.44)?

Hi all. A buddy of mine is trying to get rid of a revolver. I have not seen it, but he says it is a .44 mag. And the model number is 23-2. I asked him to bring be the serial number but, at any rate I can't find any info on it. So I am starting to think he read the number incorrectly. Can anyone here offer any insight?

Welcome to the Forum. Your friend probably has a model 29-2, which is a large (N) frame in .44 Magnum. The model 23 was the same size frame but in .38 Special, and I don't think a 23-2 was produced. There are a few guns mis-stamped 28-2 in .44 also. Hope this is helpful.
