There is a 25-7 advertised on GunBroker. The ad states that the revolver shoots 45 Colt and 45 ACP.

The ad even says moon clips are included.

Is the 25-7 designed to shoot 45 ACP?

I may not know 100% but I don't think so. It was probably converted later. It's about $80 to send a cylinder off for moon clips.

I just tried dropping moonclipped 45 ACP ammo in my 25-7 and the cylinder would not close.

25-7

It should shoot either 45 colt (Long Colt) or 45 ACP. it should say which one on the barrel. It can not shoot both of them. The acp will need moon clips.

The seller could simply be mis-informed that the gun will shoot 45ACP? I have a 25-7 and it is specifically marked 45 Colt. Like one other poster said, it also could have been converted/customized somehow. Personally, I'd opt for a bone-stock 25-7. I think it would have better resale value.

Maybe it's the one I used to own. The cylinder was machined by Art Leckie to accept .45 ACP in moonclips but it did not work out very well because the somewhat generous chambers caused a lot of cartridge flop which resulted in many misfires. This revolver also had a spurless hammer. I traded this revolver years ago. I might be able to find my old receipts to verify the serial number, if you're interested. After I got rid of it I always had the sneaking suspicion that a full power mainspring might've been able to cure those misfires.

While I'm definitely no expert, it doesn't look like there's enough room for moon clipped ACPs at the rear of the cylinder in that 25-7 on GB. The 25-7s were originally made for 45 Colt only. You can see a wider gap at the rear of the cylinder, in the 25-2 45 ACP in the picture below.

I have a 25-10 and it is also marked for .45 colt only. The cylinder is not machined to accept moon clips, and it would not close if the clips were present.

TK Moonclips will machine the cylinder so that it can be used with either 45 ACP with moonclips or 45 Colt.
