I noticed that the front end of rear sight was raised up a bit. I screwed it back down (it is under a lot of tension) and wondered if this was some way to adjust the sight or just a screw to hold the assembly in place? Worried me a bit because that tension would shoot that small screw to who knows where and I probably wouldn't even know it happened.

It tensions the rear sight “leaf” so that adjustment up or down is maintained. Don’t worry about it. Tighten the screw and keep an eye on it. If it tries to get away from you, clean the threads and put a tiny drop of Loctite 222 on it.

You might want to remove the whole sight and clean the groove it sits in, maybe there's some grit or grime that got under it over time, maybe that's part of what makes it hard to screw down.

Show some pictures; I just bought a M25-5 at New Years', it's currently my favorite revolver because it's new to me. I put 20 rounds through it the day after I bought it, and loaded 150 rounds for it yesterday; I really like how it shoots, like launching bowling balls at 800 fps. :D
