Hope everyone is having a great weekend. I found a 5’ Smith and Wesson 27-2 with serial N-206….. looks to be in good condition but sadly does not have box and paperwork.

Any idea of when this was manufactured?
Any idea if the grips are original?

Finally what would one pay for this revolver….

Here are pictures

Well, from what you posted that example looks to be in fine shape. The grips are correct. I know of one that just sold for 1495 and I bought one a year ago for 1400. Both same condition.

If that one is free of speckles, rust, pits scratches etc and is say 98%+It is worth 1500, and if you had to do a bit more to get it, don't worry about it. They will be at that level in a year and they ain't makin no mo.

If you can get to under 1400 You doing OK IMO. Again, assuming the condition

If it has the target hammer and trigger to go along with the target stocks, it may be a 1975 or later gun. Before then, the standard ship configuration was standard semi target hammer and trigger and Magna stocks. Or it could have been special ordered as it is today. Great gun, you are gonna love it. My favorite gun and barrel length!!

I recently acquired a 27-2 5" with a serial number of 200XXX, which is configured as Richard indicates - Magna stocks and semi-target hammer, std trigger. The entire 200000 to 299999 range covered 1974 and 1975 according to the SCSW IV.

At $1100 you ought to grab it - not a bad price at all.

Adios,

Pizza Bob

This gun was the standard issue for the Mississippi Highway Patrol for a long time. I don't currently have one, but have had several. I'm sure I'll eventually have another. To me it is the perfectly balanced .357 magnum handgun.

Back in the 1970s, the Florida HP carried 5" nickel M27s.

Back in the '00s, I bought an 8 3/8" nickel M27. I found a 5" nickel barrel and had it swapped on. A few years later, it went down the road. :(

A couple of years ago, friend Burt gave me an older .38/44 Outdoorsman frame. I had a M27 5" barrel and cylinder and now I have a faux M27. :)
