Richard (AKA RKMESA) said I should start a thread on these as we have guns not too far apart. 27-2 5" Blue N374179 was shipped in February 1977. It has target hammer, trigger and stocks. It is my favorite carry and shooter .357 Mag. I bought it at my favorite gun store and loved it. Fast forward and I was living in Richmond VA and a local gun store had a gunsmith that had worked for the Smith and Wesson Factory for about 20 years. So, since it did not come with what I thought should be standard-red ramp and white outline rear, he installed them for me as well as doing an action job which is as slick as butter! So, without much ado, here are some pics!

Eh, another FHP gun and a blued example that shipped in 1968. No Target features on either but it seems S&W added full Target options as standard starting in 1976 so the FHP gun should have them. Maybe police orders were excluded?

Here is my 27-2 5" made in 1978. It came with the 3T's option in the Presentation Case. I had a smooth combat trigger installed when I had a gunsmith smooth the action. Stocks are smooth rosewood from Sile that I picked up a couple of decades ago at a $10 sale from CDNN. From what I have observed, the Patridge front sight is somewhat uncommon.

Another Florida Highway Patrol.

Another five inch, but its not a 27-2. Its a .357 Magnum pre-model marked gun. This gun was shipped in March of 1958 and is a five screw. Ive heard that the factory found a group of five screw N frames and built them out and sold them after the model marked guns were already being shipped.

I love the photos so far. There are some real stunners. I own three 5" barreled 27-2s, two of which are pristine, in the presentation case and in the same SN range as Bill's 5"er. I have no photos of them yet, but I committed to Bill that I will try and take and post a few during the next week or so. I do however, have a group photo of some of my shooters (8 3/8" pre-27, 6.5" 27-2, 6" pre-27, 5.5" (cut) Model 27, 5" 27-2, and 3.5" Pre-27) that includes my well-used and slightly abused 5"er that I rescued several years ago. It has been added to my shooting stable and is a delight to shoot. Here she is with some of her shooter friends...and yes the bright spot on the side plate is where it has no finish. The finish was removed (sandpaper) in a battle with some serious rust and corrosion.

OIF2, please share grip info. those are magnificent. kenny

Gotta love a 5". I prefer the narrow hammer and trigger. This one has been in here many times; new photos are due, I guess.

Stocks are Ropers from Herrett's. I like these; they're modified from the original Ropers by Skeeter Skelton, who slimmed them slightly. Herrett's still makes these. They ARE pretty, and fit my hand perfectly.
