Model 27-2 P&R

I have a model 27-2 and I have a couple of questions.
Does the extractor rod unscrew anti-clockwise like the other Smith's?
The two pins that stop the extractor star rotating are missing, where can I get some?
Where could I obtain a replacement extractor rod as the knurling is a bit chewed up?
I'm in the UK so finding these bits is impossible here.

yes the extractor will unscrew counter clock wise. i don't know if s&w will have the pins or not. i made some for an old 1917 i had. someone on here most likely will have the parts you need.

Thanks for the info - however do you mean unscrew clockwise (left hand thread) or unscrew anti-clockwise (right hand thread)? I expect the previous owner put locktite on the extractor rod.
What diameter are the pins, are they hardened?
I hope someone on here can provide the spare "bits".

Does anyone know the diameter of the pins?
The ejector rod on model 10 amd 686 both have left hand threads (unscrew clockwise) is it the same on the model 27?
My revolver is stored over 70 miles from where I live so I cannot just have a look and I'd like to make the pins (if I cannot buy them) before next weekend.

The extractor has left hand threads. The pins measure .056 inch on my 27-2. I don't know how long they should be. I would guess it would be ok to shoot without the pins as the cartridge heads should keep the extractor centered. Might cause some trouble on return to seating after extracting.

no doubt someone took the cylinder apart without putting snap caps or empty cartridges in the charge holes, which sheared the pins when they put a tool on the knurled extractor rod end.....

Here are the measurements I took off of some new extractor pins I have:

Length = .0193"
Diameter = .055"

Now, I know over across the pond u do measrements in metric, however, you'll have to do the conversion. If you have access to a digital caliper, this shouldn't be a problem.

Go to a hobby shop and they will have spring wire in .055 dia. and cut them yourself and after you fit them, then put some blue lock-tite on them then install.

Thanks everyone who took the trouble to measure these pins for me.
I'll get some piano wire and see if that works. I also have some silver steel (water hardenable steel), I'll measure that as well.
The firing pin strikes off-centre which allerted me to look at the extractor star.
Update: I don't have any silver steel the right size. I'm off to the model shop soon.
