I have a blued Model 27-2, serial # N1779XX. The barrel and cylinder have a very slight reddish tint that is different than the frame, not noticeable unless you really look at the gun under good light. I don't believe the gun has been re-blued. Has anyone experienced this with a factory finish? I was told that S&W blued the pistol parts in different lots and then assembled the guns. The gun is in pristine condition, I can't believe the factory would release a gun this way. Any thoughts?

Reddish tint or plum colored as its called, can appear slowly over years after gun is assembled.

I have a 27-2 also that I had reblued due to scratches on the frame..,All parts were blued at the same time but the barrel came out a slight plum color..,I've heard reasons of blueing temperature,, metalurgy difference,,and so on..Nothing seems to pin point the cause..Can any one shed some light on it...??. I dont mean to hijack the thread...TIN...
