This is a Model 27, new production "Classics" series. The grip retention screw comes out easily, but the grips themselves are wedged on TIGHT. I tried *lightly* prying them with a flat head screwdriver--they moved a bit, but it seems a lot more pressure is needed. Yikes! I am afraid of damaging the revolver's finish and/or the grips. Any suggestions?

Put the screw back in without threading it in and tap lightly on the screw head. Usually that will loosen the opposite panel enough to be able to remove it, then taking off the panel with the screw should be easy. Hope this is helpful.

Alan's idea should work.
If not, a variation of the Nill grip removal procedure,as specified by them, should work.
Nills have a very tight fit,and they suggest a glancing blow with a rubber mallet on the bottom of the grip panels.I usually resort to a rubber heeled shoe, much softer than any rubber mallet that I have.I make sure that it's clean, also put a layer of two of paper towel over it,and give an outward wack with it.

I have a set of stag grips on a Model 27 that are very tight. I can find a slight opening on one panel or the other to place a credit card edge and work the card all around.
