Hello,

I came across a model 27 with a 3.5 inch barrel, serial number S1398xx. It is in very good condition. I was wondering of I could get some info on it. Approximate age, approximate value, etc. Any and all information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Yup. Condition is everything. It's impossible to give a narrow range on value without at least seeing pictures of the gun. A 27 with 3.5 inch barrel is a highly sought after revolver. The difference in price from very good to near mint can be hundreds of dollars. Whether or not the stocks are numbered to the gun makes a difference, as does the inclusion of the box and accessories.

As others have said, the finish condition is everything in establishing value on something like this, and the 3.5" barrel is most sought after. "Very Good" can have a range of different meanings in terms of condition. Could be anywhere from $800 to $1200.

Also it is possible that a longer barrel could have later been cut down to 3.5". This is an instance where a factory letter would be a valuable asset to establishing authenticity and value.
