I bought a model 28 Highway Patrolman with a 4" barrel. Could anyone tell me the approximate year of manufacture? The serial number is N5311XX.

As you can see the grips are not original, they're from eBay. The gun came with rubber grips but I prefer wood on blue. Esthetically the revolver has seen better days, but so have I. :D

Welcome to the Forum! Lots of Highway Patrolman and Model 28 fans to be found here. You picked up a nice Model 28-2 ca. 1978, and it's a P&R (pinned barrel, recessed cylinder holes). Yes, it's seen some use but that makes it interesting, and you don't have to be afraid to shoot it! I think you did good choosing those aftermarket stocks, too...they look comfortable. It should be a fun shooter. Enjoy!

Nice Highway Patrolman! Congrats! I suspect the grips are some of those made in Thailand, but every set I have seen still look very good like yours! I thought about getting some S&W Magna grips for mine that would be close to my 1962 vintage 28-2, but I have kinda gotten used to the satin finish on these which goes really well with the revolver's blue finish.

Looks like my -2 is a 1973 model.

OP, love your grips! I believe I'd shop around for an affordable reblue job. A shame it's not got a perfect finish on it.

My .o2
