Model 28-2

Hi All:

New to forum and was told you guys/girls might be able to help me date my new gun. Its a Model 28-2 4" with serial #N113880. I also attached a picture, which brings me to my next question.

What kind of S&W grips are these, don't believe I have seen this type before.

Looks like 1973.

I believe that the grips are Hogues,currently being produced for Smith & Wesson. Definitely not period correct for the 28-2.

I'm leaning towards Altamont grips. S&W has been using them on their revolvers the last few years.

I'd say Magna grips were probably on that gun when shipped.

Most likely Jul/Aug time frame 1973.

Those grips are Altamont Bateleurs, Checkered Engraved Super Rosewood with Silver Medallions made for the square butt N frame.

Mine sports a pair of Cocobolo Herrett smooth targets. Period correct would be a pair of Magna stocks, I believe. You have a great shooting .357.

I just picked up a 28-2 myself a few weeks back. There's something about that N frame!
