Hi All
I have acquired a Model 28 no dash 4", 4 screw that appears to be unfired since leaving home.
It came to me with Target grips with football cut outs, I'm told that these are not correct.
No box, no papers.
I'm undecided whether to try and find some Diamond Magna's and sell it or I might trade it for something interesting.
I have another 28-2 for shooting so I'm good to go in that respect...
Any idea of real world value would be appreciated.
Thanks, Pat

I'm less an expert but I'm pretty sure football cutout diamond targets have been around since the mid 1950's and could have come on a 28 four screw.

and a little reminder, target stocks were rarely numbered to the gun.

I didn't make it very clear but the targets are not diamond, so I'm pretty sure they're not correct on a 50 year old.
Thanks for your info

No diamonds means post 1968.

Did you buy it to sell it? In that case sell it if you think you can turn a profit (just don't let the ATF know you are flipping guns unless you have an FFL). If you have to spend money on it in order to sell it it becomes more difficult to make a profit.

SaxonPig what you say is interesting.
When I went to look at this gun I thought it was just a nice one, as soon as I looked at it I asked if it had ever been fired and the answer was no, so I traded for it without thinking what I would ever do with something like this.
When I get a gun it usually has a home for life, but I'm not into safe queens and I am not gonna be the first after 50 years as a virgin.
Thats why I say I have a sorta dilemma
I think it needs a new home just the way it is, whoever gets this may have some appropriate grips and extra's.
Thanks for your thoughts
Pat

I don't know anything about "real world value... but if you come up with some photos and a "realistic" price or something you might want to trade it for let me know. Thanks, Kyle

I don't buy or sell guns to make a profit, that's not me.
I ended up with this kinda by mistake and I'm trying to offer it up to this community so I can get another shooter.
I'd like a shooter grade 27 3 1/2" or a year 1952 22lr model 18 or 17.
I don't keep up with real world prices and really don't care, I just wanna shoot something fun that's blue and has wood grips and hold six rounds

It's funny how things happen some time but I love your down to earth attitude. You can post it for trade in the classified section up here on the forum and tell them there what you are looking for in a trade and maybe someone will make a deal with you.

I cant offer an exact number on your 4 screw gun, but,
I just sold an N serial 4" with target grips in VG+ to excellent condition for $400.

The fact that its a 4 screw adds to the price the correct vintage grips will be about $150.

A quick check in SCSW had the Model marked 28 in EXC cond at $375 in 2006 and the earlier version in EXC cond as $500.
While the prices may not be accurate today perhaps the % difference will factor out with a calculator.

BTW using an inflation calculator from the internet translates $375 in 2006 dollars to $420.32 in 2011 so maybe it isnt that far off.

Sounds like it might be an even trade for a 6" 1952 K22 as they sell for about $600,
The early 4" K22 usually goes for a little bit more than the 6".
Just saw one at the show for $750 LNIB.

This is all speculation and just posted to add food for thought.
I could be way off so ask more people to get a consensus......

Good luck with your sale or trade.

If I had a dollar for every previously unfired pistol I have put to use...

Thanks for all the input guys, some good thoughts here.
Now I need to decide, in the meantime I will try to post some pics(I haven't done this before).

I think I'm gonna take it to the Orlando show next weekend and walk around and if I see something I like, use it for trade fodder.
There's a couple of guns I wouldn't mind parenting that don't live here yet...
Thanks for the idea's and advice.
