Found on Gunbroker. Anyone have a revolversmith to recommend for polishing the action just like Skeeter Skelton would want it?

Considering the refinish, I would be quite surprised if whoever had that done didn't also have the action worked over too.

Maybe not though, keep us informed. That reblue work is quite nice and rich.

Frank Glenn is my go to gunsmith. He's excellent, honest, and has very reasonable turn around times. There are a lot of competent gunsmiths but turn around times can be long.

Good refinish. Tight sideplate seam and the edges of the cylinder flutes remain sharp, among other clues.

Cylinder and Slide would be my first choice for an action job if there aren't any local 'smiths you trust. Unlike Colts, where the accomplished gunsmiths are mostly lost to the grave, there are still quite a few gunsmiths on this side of the ground who do good work on S&Ws.

Thanks guys. It is a beautiful refinish. The action hasn't been tuned. When I picked it up the cylinder would bind on three chambers. I dry-fired it and used a fine sharpening stone to polish the obvious burrs from the lugs on the ejector. It improved it considerably. However, it still binds a little on one chamber. And I want to get the serrations removed from the trigger.

I'm very happy with it. Now, if I could just find some ammo...

It seems to me a well used 28 would not need a polished action job. If it were mine I would try a slightly lighter (not cut) trigger return spring and hammer spring. Check for light strikes with all brands of ammo and trigger must return properly. In other words, don't go too light.

I'm no gun smith but I have done this many times, very successfully I might add.

I hope you get the action all sorted out. That has got to be the deepest richest refinish I have ever seen on a Model 28.

Very nice M28! They look nice when finished like a 27. I have a 4" that I swear has a M27 cylinder. Different from the frame, and all the other 29's I have. I think nothing of it, because I have heard the story before, that some guns left the factory with M27 parts.

As for your action job, I would send it to the factory. They offer an action job at a reasonable price, and be clear that you want it gone over for proper tolerances etc. You did did not say how old the piece is. Then, find some nice S&W wood grips.

With most S&W's a lot of dry firing, double action will "slick-up" the action a bit! If you're in a hurry, a little "Jeweler's Rouge" at friction points and then a bunch of double action dry firing should be quite effective! Thoroughly clean......the enjoy! memtb

Excellent advice. I just ordered some. I would rather do that than send it off.

I'll research the serial number when I get time. I'm thinking that it was carried a lot and shot a little. Because the finish on the case hardening was hardly worn until I started dry firing it.

That's a fine looking 28. Reminds me of my factory refinish I had done a few years ago.

I saw that gun and I was wondering if it had been refinished, because it looks so pretty. Congratulations!

Recent Akquisition of my M28-2

Love this thread because I just picked up a very nice refinished M28 that is on par with my M27 down to the Nickel Refinish. I swear the trigger is just as nice as the 27 as well.

Ghat Blued one you picked up looks very nice with the high polish
