A little more detail would definitely help. Pictures tell a thousand words, but if you don't have any pictures answer these:
Box, tools, etc., included? That means a lot to some.
Any other extras? (Holster or the like).
Original stocks (grips)?
Since you say 1958, that means it should have the model number stamped on it. Is it an M28-0? Or is it not model marked (other than "Highway Patrolman")?
98% is bound to drive the price up, IF it is not refinished. That's where pictures help.
It could be worth $500 on up depending on the answers to these questions.

Based on what you told us, assuming original diamond magna stocks (grips), it would probably get $650-$700 here.
Also assuming it is stamped "MOD-28" on the yoke, visible when you swing open the cylinder.
HPs/28s are kind of weird. One with honest wear but a proven/provable law enforcement pedigree will likely be worth more than a nearly perfect one that's sat in someone's sock drawer for 50+ years.
