Model 29-1

I have the opportunity to purchase a model 29-1 6.5 inch nickle plated 44 Mag revolver. it is mint condition and unfired.the seller does not have the original box with the Revolver. I'm trying to find out the value of the gun. any help is very much appreciated.

I 'think' if its truly nickel its a pretty rare bird!! A factory letter would be in order.
The lack of a box hurts some.
Hopefully Doc44 or 29-1 will respond soon. They are a fountain of knowledge.

As mentioned above, Doc44 is one of the local (and world's) experts on .44 Magnum revolvers and he posted in this old thread. Note the quoted price from 6 years ago; it has not gone down in value since then.

I just bought it and will go pick it up in the morning. I didn't buy it to sell so if I paid a little to much its okay. I'll try to post a pick of it

I don't know what it is worth but the last one I saw was unfired in the box with an asking price of $8600 as I remember. We would definitely like to see pictures.

Okay ....Just got a call and the gun is a model 29-2 vin number N685508
Nickle 6.5 in. im dealing with a older gentleman so I can understand him
making a mistake. The gun is unfired.... Now after all of you stop laughing what is it worth. lol Do I need to post in another forum?

No, you're still in the correct subforum - a late 1979 to early 1980 gun. Enjoy!

An unfired pinned and recessed M29-2 with target stocks is easily worth what you paid. Probably plus $400 or so.

that is a $1500 to $1700 gun all the day long. In the right online dealer hands it is $2K, I put at least $300 premium for the nickel.

A model 29 of this era came with the Presentation case.

I'm not sure if I would try too hard to find a wood presentation box for it if I planned to shoot it much. Boxes I have seen for sale lately are around $300 and the gun should not really be stored in the box. And many boxes the insides really deteriorate badly. I have several boxes and the my 29-2 I bought in 1968 hasn't been back in it since I originally took it out.
If it is going to be a collector firearm, then I might think differently.

I have sent you an email in regards to a presentation case! Storing guns in these cases is a personal decision. My older N frame guns are all stored in a case for 30+years. Some are original and some have been refurbished. The important thing is to keep your safe dehumidified! If that beautiful NI 29-2 is to be a collectors piece, it deserves a presentation case! IMHO
