Model 29-2 factory magnaported?

on a roll this weekend...posted my 66 yesterday now on to my 29-2....sn N642xxx (so around 1980) 8 3/8 nickel with case target hammer and smooth trigger...magnaported....I also have had this since 1980 81....i bought it used with wood box..shoots like a .44 special with the magnaport

my question is...is this a factory magnaport job?....not sure if they did this back in the day...

Al,
It is extremely unlikely that the revolver left the factory that way

Odds are one of the firearms owners sent it off to Mag-Na-Port to have the work done after the revolver left the factory

There are/were a few Mag-Na-Ported factory S & W revolvers (special distributor runs in the late 1980s to early 1990s), but I have not heard of or seen a model 29-2 with this work done that was not aftermarket.

Do you think it helps with lessening muzzle flip?

I do....to me its like shooting a .44 special while using .44 mag rds

if its a 1980 build yr...and iam thinking iam maybe the 2nd owner....wish i would have asked it it was factory....just thought it was when i saw it...as a youngster

You could always pay to have it lettered if you really want to know.

Doubt it is factory. It was popular aftermarket modification in the early 1970's.

THAT IS A VERY IMPRESSIVE M29. THE TARGET GRIPS ARE SOMETHING SPECIAL. IT MUST LOOK GORGEOUS IN ITS PRESENTATION CASE......

IIRC, SOME M29s WERE FACTORY PORTED. A SEARCH OF THE STANDARD CATALOG MAY HELP.....

IMHO, THIS REVOLVER WARRANTS A LETTER FROM MR. JINX, TO SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT.....

I'll bet the cost of the letter it wasnt ported when it shipped.
