That's different! Wonder if it was custom ordered or if a sight swap was performed? I like it and considering the 8 3/8" barrel length is more appropriate for target shooting and hunting, it would be a more useful sight than the Baughman ramp sight.

Based on the serrations and the fit of the sight to the base, I'd say that was not a factory installation. I still like it and like I previously said, the Patridge front sight is a better sight for the 8 3/8 inch barreled revolvers.It could be a custom order, I do not have the original box, but I do not think it has been replaced.
As close as I can get with my book shows the serial number being a 1976.

The factory Patridge front sights I'm familiar with are smooth and 90 degree perpendicular to the bore.
Everyone raves about "pinned & recessed", (barrel & cylinder respectively), but I think pinned front sights that lend themselves to personalized set-up are a very nice feature as well.
