Model 29-2 front sight

That's different! Wonder if it was custom ordered or if a sight swap was performed? I like it and considering the 8 3/8" barrel length is more appropriate for target shooting and hunting, it would be a more useful sight than the Baughman ramp sight.

It could be a custom order, I do not have the original box, but I do not think it has been replaced.
As close as I can get with my book shows the serial number being a 1976.

Doc44 will be along shortly, but with the 29-2 every front sight pin I have seen was polished flat and effectively invisible. With this and the Patridge blade, I suspect it was professionally replaced.

Being an SWCA member you could "Ask Roy", but I'd bet he'd have to do letter-level research to find out details.

I think post #5 above is correct. The single pin securing the Patridge blade to the ramp base appears to have been removed in order to remove the red ramp and then replaced to secure the new front sight blade.

I know of one Model 29-2 that letters with a McGivern gold bead front sight and two or three with a yellow ramp, but the rest all have the standard red ramp.

If you really want to find out about the front sight, you could send for a letter of authenticity.

You guys are slipping - someone has to do this...

:D:D:D:D

Is a bird on the barrel worth two in the bush?

Well I guess now that I'm being teased that must mean it's OK for me to hang out with the guys in the club😎

Since I purchased this model 29–2 with the partridge front sight,
I ran across this movie poster and I do not want to change the front sight…. So I guess I'm in a hunt for another model 29–2
8 3/8 inch barrel with a red ramp front sight…

Two thumbs up on your 29-2!

The factory Patridge front sights I'm familiar with are smooth and 90 degree perpendicular to the bore.
Personally, I consider your modified 29-2 an improvement to the factory red ramp front sight. The long barrel is favored for long range and precision shooting, which the Patridge sight helps fulfill admirably. The red ramp seems more favorable to a smooth holster draw, not exactly the intent or forte of an 8 & 3/8".

Everyone raves about "pinned & recessed", (barrel & cylinder respectively), but I think pinned front sights that lend themselves to personalized set-up are a very nice feature as well.

I like your 29-2 very much! :)

Based on the serrations and the fit of the sight to the base, I'd say that was not a factory installation. I still like it and like I previously said, the Patridge front sight is a better sight for the 8 3/8 inch barreled revolvers.

I like the looks of a Patridge sight on 6" barrels. I also like the McGivern like you find on Registered Magnums on the shorter barrels. Most of the Patridge sights I see are straight cut on the backside, like you mention, but the M41 has an undercut Patridge, which also looks good.

Looking at the sight in OP's picture, the blade looks narrower than the Patridge on my M27-2, but the pin looks the same. Mine is clearly visible, although it is finished flush with the ramp/rib.

If I found a long barreled 29 with a Patridge front sight, I'd consider it value added.
